A Magical and Colourful Inspirational Shoot at Hollyhollows Wedding Venue in Mid~Wales

Hollyhollows Wedding Photographer

In July I had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with some incredible suppliers at Hollyhollows Wedding Venue Cefn Coch near Llanfair Caereinion in Mid-Wales. To be asked to work with a brand new licensed wedding venue, and one that represents my style AND my ideal clients was very exciting - so read on if you are an outdoorsy, adventurous, fun, loving glamping kinda couple!!

I love photography shoots as much as I love shooting real life weddings. It’s great to get to know and work with a magnificent bunch of local suppliers plus a perfect opportunity to hone my photography skills and try out new creative ideas without the pressures of a real wedding!! And, more importantly, when you are choosing your photographer, its reassuring to know they have worked at the venue before; I know the best spots for the best shots!

Set in beautiful Welsh countryside, in the heart of Mid-Wales, Hollyhollows specialise in small bespoke weddings, available for licenced or celebrant weddings, elopements, civil partnerships, LGBT+ couples, or renewing your wedding vows. Exclusive use and unique in that every celebration will be different, perfect for a festival style wedding or elopement!

With all the views surrounding Hollyhollows, I was spoilt for choice shooting here, there are so many quirky little features; some of my favourites included the fairy garden and the chandelier hanging in the tree near the pagoda! The pagoda is a perfect spot for your outdoor ceremony, lit with fairy lights, tree lanterns and candles; a magical spot. If an outdoor ceremony is not your thing or the weather turns wet, then the converted barn is just the place, with a gorgeous decked balcony overlooking stunning landscape, the best place to toast your nuptials!

On the day of the shoot the weather was perfect and golden hour was just amazing, one of my favourite times to capture awesome portrait shots worthy of the mantlepiece. We walked along the lane surrounded by fields, (and lots of sheep), there is so much space for some fun group shots, we did some smoke bombs here, the dramatic clouds and the hills as a wonderful backdrop with that light turning golden it was awesome!

We strolled back down the lane and into the meadow to make the most of the golden light before taking a breather and a warm around the firepit, we didn’t quite make it into the hot-tubs! If your a glamper you would love the accommodation here! I seriously want to stay here for a night!!

Nature pretty much was the styling for my outdoor shots, the styling for the barn was done by Elaine and Jon the owners, and all the flower designs by Serendipity Flowers in Welshpool. Tom and Jess, our real life couple were incredible to work with. Jess a make up artist did her own makeup and hair. She modelled two stunning gowns provided by Bridal Reloved in Shrewsbury. For the indoor shoot Jess wore a Bowen Dryden Dress~ “Rose Garden”, her bouquet was a hand-tied collection of Sarah Bernard’s Peonies, Pink Veronica and lisianthus, eucalyptus, fresh rosemary with sprigs of fresh lavender calming for the bride. To complete the whimsical look, soft pink asparagus ferns and fluffy lavender coloured bunny tails were added.

The second dress for the ‘boho’ look was a white rose lace fit to flare. Two dresses in one with a mink coloured silk halter neck under dress with a lace overlay. For this dress Serendipity went bright and bold for our fun loving welly clad festival bride look! Using a vibrant palette of colours consisting of corals, lime greens and bright yellows and strong blues with a flower crown made up of the same to match our ‘boho’ bride look!

Malimac Events provided the Champagne Cart and it looked fantastic on the decked terrace overlooking the meadow fields, a perfect spot for post ceremony celebratory drinks or to watch the sun set later on. Add a choice of mobile food and a bar caterer to complete the festival feel. The beautiful ‘subtle ombre’ wedding cake was Baked by Meg decorated in pastel colours and finished off with floral toppers by Serendipity.

I enjoyed shooting here, so much, that I hope to shoot here in the future hopefully storytelling your wedding day.

Hollyhollows is the perfect venue for couples wanting a small wedding with their own personality stamped on it! Rustic, ‘boho’, festival or whimsical, anything goes here! A vision of fairly lights, tree lanterns and everyone sat around firepits on hay bales enjoying the celebrations or sat on the terrace watching the sun go down! Perrrr-fect!!
