Non-Traditional Wedding Ideas That Might Just Feel Right for You

Not every wedding needs to follow the same script. If you’re planning a day that feels relaxed, personal and genuinely you, here are some of my ideas that couples are loving right now…

1. Include your pets
They’re part of your family, after all. Whether they’re there in person or included in a more creative way, it adds a really personal touch.

2. Keep your guest list small
A smaller wedding often feels more intimate. You’ll actually get time to talk, laugh, and be present with everyone there.

3. Ditch the wedding party
No bridesmaids or groomsmen? No problem. Your people can still be involved without the formality.

4. Skip traditions that don’t fit
First dances, bouquet tosses, cake cutting… all optional. Keep what you love, leave what you don’t.

5. Share your vows privately

Some couples choose to read personal vows to each other in private—before or during the day—keeping that moment just for them.

6. Start earlier, finish lighter
Early ceremonies or even brunch weddings can completely shift the energy of the day—more relaxed, less pressure (and often kinder on the budget too).

7. Keep group photos simple
A few key family shots, maybe one big group photo… and then back to enjoying your day. No long line-ups needed.

8. Do a first look
Seeing each other before the ceremony can really help calm nerves and gives you a quiet moment together before everything begins.

9. Have a friend lead your ceremony
Someone who knows you both can make the ceremony feel far more personal and meaningful (even if they’re not officially officiating).

10. Sit with your friends
Top tables aren’t a must. Sit where you feel happiest—surrounded by your favourite people.

Your wedding doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s. Plan it in a way that feels right for you—and everything else will fall into place.
